Collaborating in Nashville
As you might already know, I've been living in Nashville and spending most of my time songwriting. I haven't abandoned a career as a touring recording artist, but I've been enjoying the challenge of working with some of the best writers and musicians in the world. Recent projects include sessions with Memphis Boys piano player, Bobby Wood (Elvis Presley, Wilson Pickett, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Garth Brooks, LeAnne Rimes etc.), 60's legend Bonnie Bramlett (Delaney & Bonnie, John Lennon, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Allman Brothers, Jimmy Buffett, Ike & Tina Turner), Joie Scott (..1 Collin Raye song, "Not That Different" and recent Shania Twain single "Shoes" from the Desperate Housewives soundtrack) and Wes Hightower (George Strait, Montgomery Gentry...if it's country hit, he probably sings harmonies on it). I'm looking forward to an upcoming writing session with Mike Reid (2x-Grammys award winner and writer of 11 ..1 songs including Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me")

RECORDING, WRITING, CO-WRITING, TEACHING
Alan is concentrating on writing and recording songs for the long-awaited follow-up release to his debut, Ordinary Miracle. Working with drummer, Trey Gray (Faith Hill, Jewel, Brooks & Dunn), the two are co-producing the record at Alan's home in Nashville.
Alan continues to co-write with songwriters from around the country. His latest collaboration is with Rounder recording artist, Robert Lee Castleman. Alison Krauss and Union Station's recording of Castleman's, "The Lucky One" won the 2001 Grammy Award for "Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal." AKUS recorded four of Castleman's songs for their latest Rounder release, Lonely Runs Both Ways.
Alan will be teaching four weeks this summer at the National Guitar Summer Workshop.March 2005
NEW CD UNDERWAY
Alan continues work on his first full-length record of new material in five years. His last, Ordinary Miracle was an independent release in September 1999. Working with Nashville-based drummer Trey Gray (Faith Hill, Jewel, Brooks & Dunn), the two are co-producing the record at Gray's home studio.
"I'm very excited about this project. We're taking our time and enjoying the process. We've started with "Deserving", a song I wrote a few years back on a plane to Boulder, Colorado. It begins with a contageous drum loop, which Trey played live, and builds to a tight-fitting drum track that takes it to a very exciting, new level. The production is spare at the moment, with just an acoustic guitar and Wurlitzer [piano]. We're excited to see what we can do combining natural instruments with electronic ones, weaving sounds in and out and playing with space and distance. I love the way Bjork's music paints landscapes in this way, and I think David Gray and [his drummer] Clune proved that singer-songwriters who play acoustic instruments can also ride that wave. The process is very natural, and I'm optimistic about the result. I have a feeling this is going to be an emotional record."August 2004
